Dubai Islands Beachs - Impossible Made Possible

. Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Sunil here to talk about the possible “Eighth Wonder of the World”, the Dubai Islands, as many people regard it as such. I had the chance to tour Dubai city by air in a helicopter ride, and boy do these look amazing. Insanely amazing!

These man-made islands are built in such a way that it is hard to say that they are artificial, and it took years of careful planning, precise skill in the actual construction, and a lot of effort to make these islands possible. It took a team of the best architects, engineers, and scientists to make the Dubai islands existent.

The Dubai Islands are made up of four islands – Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, and Palm Deira, collectively known as the Palm Islands built in the shape of a date palm tree; and The World, which is the latest addition to the group of man-made islands.

Palm Jumeirah Dubai is the first island created back in 2001 and residents moved into their properties in the island in 2006.

It was featured in the Discovery Channel segment “Megastructures” as an “Impossible Structure.” Only a few are aware that it was constructed to solve Dubai’s beach deficiency.

It was conceptualized by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, when he drew a picture of a palm tree and it dawned to him that its fronds would provide more beach frontage than a traditional circular island.

The Jumeirah Beach in this island is already well-known because of Burj Al Arab, the only seven star hotel in the world as of 2010. The Palm Island Resort Dubai is another attraction in this island. The island houses luxury resorts and accommodations such as hotels, houses, apartments, and villas.

The Palm Jebel Ali is toward Dubai’s industrial free trade zone and its construction began in October 2002. This island is expected to accommodate around 1.7 million people by 2020. It is 50 percent larger than the Palm Jumeirah and its overall theme is entertainment. It houses six marinas, a water theme park, a “Sea Village,” houses built on stilts above the water, and boardwalks that circle the branches of the palm.
e construction of Palm Deira was started on October 2007, and is the third man-made Dubai palm island. It is located on the coast of the Deira beach, and it is the largest among all the Palm islands. The theme of Palm Deira is residential and houses different residential properties, marinas, shopping malls, sports facilities, and clubs.

The World is the most recent addition to the Dubai islands. From the name itself, it is a collection of 300 private islands shaped into the world map situated four kilometers off the shore of Jumeirah. And as if The World was not enough, another future project was conceptualized. What could be bigger than The World?

The Universe is another planned man-made archipelago which would be shaped like the solar system. It was announced by the developer of all the Dubai islands, Nakheel, on January 2008. The project was on hold as of 2009, but the original plan was to complete it sometime between 2023 and 2028.

The Dubai islands are a proof of man’s ability to go beyond what is normal and expected, and a Dubai tour would not be complete without visiting these islands. I highly recommended an arial tour of the city. It will blow your eyes and mind away I guarantee you that!

Beyond the Palm Islands are enormous ideas waiting to be put into reality. Who knows, maybe in the future you get to visit your own country in The World and the Earth in The Universe?
